Debra Messing Apologizes to Blake Shelton After Claiming He Supports Donald Trump

Debra Messing Apologizes to Blake Shelton After Getting Politically-Driven Disagreement on Twitter

Debra Messing says she let her political passions get the best of her.

On Thursday, Messing, 47, responded to Blake Shelton’s recent comments about Donald Trump, targeting her message to the country crooner’s girlfriend Gwen Stefani.

“Omg. How? @gwenstefani please talk to your man to not vote for the person who will strip you of your rights,” Messing wrote in a now-deleted tweet, obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

The moment that sparked Messing’s discontent was Shelton telling Billboard, “Whether you love him or hate him, he says what he thinks, and he has proven that you don’t always have to be so afraid. A lot of people are pulling for him, no matter how much Hollywood fights it.”

Although Stefani stayed away from the spat that ensued, Shelton, 40, jumped right in, clarifying that he hadn’t given his stamp of approval to either candidate.

“Hey before this gets going like it always does… I haven’t enforced (sic) ANYBODY for president. And I not going to. I don’t do that s***,” he wrote, adding, “My comment about wish there was another option but there’s not is across the board…period. Now go dig up another story.”

Before things could get too messy between the trio, Messing put an end to the Twitter feud by offering a public apology.

“Ok- I regret commenting. My passions got the better of me. Sorry. @gwenstefani @blakeshelton,” she wrote.

Steering clear of ill feelings, Shelton quickly accepted the apology in a tweet that read, “Thank you sis.. I don’t endorse anybody. For this very reason!!”
