David Beckham Got a New Tattoo But Will You Even Notice It Among His Others?
David Beckham shared a photo of his latest tattoo on Instagram Wednesday. Many of Beckham’s tattoos reference religious iconography or Greek mythology and it looks like the latest — on his right ankle — falls into the latter category. The tattoo shows a boy and a girl running in a classical artistic style.
“Great new piece from Mark Mahoney at Shamrock,” Beckham captioned the photo. “Always nice to sit and listen to Mark’s conversation for five hours whilst watching him work… True artist.”
In a recent interview with GQ, Beckham revealed he has 40 tattoos. “The tattoos are a way of me expressing deeper feelings about the things I care about and love. Am I done? Probably not … Think Victoria [Beckham]’s given up on telling me to stop now. She used to. She used to say, ‘Do you have to?’ But she knows it makes me happy.”
As for the artist behind Beckham’s new piece of body art, Mahoney — who owns the Shamrock Social Club in West Hollywood, Calif. — is something of a legend in the tattoo world. He’s a pioneer in the method of tattooing with black and gray ink using a single needle. Some of his other celebrity clients include Lana Del Rey, Jared Leto, Mr. and Mrs. Jolie-Pitt themselves, The Notorious B.I.G., Britney Spears, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and most of the band formerly known as One Direction: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne.
With his upper half nearly full, it looks like Beckham’s going to be focusing on tattooing the legs that made him famous for now.
