Candace Cameron Bure: ‘I Kind of Laugh at What I Got Myself Into’ With ‘The View’

Here’s one view we can all agree on: You should take the best care possible of your animals.
Actress and The View co-host Candace Cameron Bure has partnered with Banfield Pet Hospital for the release of their second children’s book, My Very, Very Smelly Breath!, which teaches children the importance of being a responsible pet owner and maintaining their pet’s dental health.
While speaking with Yahoo Celebrity about the partnership (more on that below), Bure, 39, also opened up about what her experience as one of The View’s newbies has been like so far.
“I am enjoying it,” she said. “It’s such a new experience for me to be a co-host and be voicing my own personal opinions as opposed to being an actress.”

Aside from starring in Full House and her stint on Dancing With the Stars, Candace is also widely known in Hollywood for her conservative and religious beliefs. However, ahead of signing onto the ABC show, she said she was careful to make sure she wasn’t going to be labeled as the new Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
“That definitely was a discussion because we know that the show can be very polarizing, [but] being conservative and being a Christian, those aren’t the only facets to me,” she said. “I know the producers knew that, [and that’s] why they continued to ask me to be on the show. I think that sometimes things I do and say are surprising to people, but listen, I would never have agreed to do the show if they tried to pigeonhole me in any way, or force me to only come off as a certain way. They are all my opinions and I’m not told to be more conservative or told to talk about a certain thing more or less. I really just come at it with exactly how I feel and where I’m at with it. So it’s good, it’s comfortable.”
It’s also a gig that places her right next to people she may not agree with politically, like Bernie Sanders, who was a guest on Wednesday’s show.
“What a season to join, right in the middle of a political year!” she exclaimed. “I kind of laugh at what I got myself into, but it’s really great. I get to stay up on politics and I’m learning more than I ever have. I think that one of the things I love about the show is [that] we have different viewpoints and, obviously, we’re all opinionated and strong.” She continued, “I’m not a closed-minded person, I definitely have specific opinions, but I love when people share with me theirs and it gives me food for thought. To me, that makes the world go round. — that maybe they open up my eyes to see something they didn’t see before.”
When it was Candace’s turn to engage with Sanders, there was no heated debate between her and the Democratic Presidential Candidate. Instead, she just asked him to say one nice word about Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Hillary Clinton. So was a question like that her choice or was it fed from producers? Bure noted her involvement with questions “depends on the guest.”
“The producers do a great job, it’s quite a process,” she explained. “They do come up with a lot of the questions and then sometimes we do have specific questions that we want to ask, but they still have to get approved,” she revealed. “Most guests know what they are going to be asked ahead of time, sometimes they don’t want to talk about certain things … It’s not quite as a free-for-all as I’d like it to be. That specific question, I admit, I didn’t come up with it. I saw it though and thought it was a great question, so I chose [that one] to ask.”
Though her future regarding a second season on The View is unknown (she told us she’d “love to stay”), the experience has changed her opinion on the usual rule of thumb that you should not talk about politics with friends.
“Oh, I do now all the time!” she laughed. “I never did [before] because I felt like I never had anything worthy to say and now that I’m talking about it every day I feel like … I’m a student. I just want to talk to everybody about it and hear their opinions and where they’re at and see a different point of view because I know I can bring that back to the table.”
Another thing the TV star has been busy with is reprising her role as DJ Tanner on the Full House reboot, Fuller House. That’s also what led to her partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital.

“DJ’s now a veterinarian on Fuller House and I’m a pet owner in real life and I love my dogs,” she shared. “This is a great partnership just to bring awareness about dental disease and how easy it is to prevent it, and even involve your kids in taking care of your pet.” she explained. "Banfield Hospital has a children’s book, My Very, Very Smelly Breath. It’s an adorable scratch and sniff book and just so cute for your kids.”
