Blue Ivy Crashes James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ at the Grammys

The only person who upstaged Beyoncé at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night was her daughter, Blue Ivy. The 5-year-old girl created what was soon to become one of the most buzzed-about moments of the night during the 59th annual Grammy Awards, when she jumped into James Corden‘s lap at the end of a celebrity-packed sing-along.

It all started when the comedian joked that CBS was “concerned” that since his show is on in the middle of the night, viewers would have zero idea who he was. To help jog their memories, the powers-that-be had forced him to wear a cardboard cutout of a car. (ICYMI, his “Carpool Karaoke” on The Late Late Show has become quite a pop-culture phenomenon.) “It’s degrading, is what it is,” he said before recruiting a few stars to join him in the tiny “vehicle.”

He started with Jennifer Lopez and John Legend. He also summoned Chrissy Teigen, but she seemed to decline his offer, by virtue of the fact that she never got “into” the “car.” Next came Jason Derulo, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Neil Diamond. Once everyone was squished in nice and tight (and viewers began having flashbacks to Ellen DeGeneres’s Oscar selfie from a few years back), Corden kicked off a sing-along to “Sweet Caroline.” Everyone was having a blast — but at the very end, it got even better, because little Blue Ivy decided to get in on the action.

“Blue’s here!” Corden exclaimed as the little girl worked her way in beside him. In an adorable bubblegum-pink tux with black trim and a white ruffled shirt — a clear nod to Prince — she looked very much at home in the sea of famous faces.

She didn’t really sing much, but she didn’t need to. The few words she got in at the very end were more than enough to bring smiles to everyone’s face. As J.Lo wrapped her arms around Corden’s neck in a hug, Blue fiddled with her glittery cat-shaped purse and reminded everyone that girls rule the world … or at least, this one does.
