Katy Perry may be in the middle of a rough patch now that she and husband of a little over a year, 35-year-old Russell Brand, announced their breakup over the holidays, but you wouldn't know it from the perky performance she put on Thursday at the Sentul International Convention Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia. In her first post-split show, the pop star pranced around stage in her signature sparkly sweets-inspired outfits as she belted out her hits.
Katy strutted herself in a lime green frock adorned with candies and accessorized with boas. She also planted a smooch on a backup dancer, brought a mime into the act, and eventually donned her signature blue wig and a dress with extra-large cherries on "top" as she flashed a peace sign to the crowd.
Days before, Ms. Perry shared with the world how amped up she was for the show, tweeting on Tuesday, "After 27 hours of flying (on an air bus, feels strange) I'm SO EXCITED to FINALLY be in INDONESIA! U guys have waited forever #timetodeliver"
It was definitely a change of attitude for the "I Kissed a Girl" singer, who had been shying away from public appearances since her separation was announced, backing out of the People's Choice Awards last week and skipping all of the Golden Globe soirees over the weekend.
According to the latest Us Weekly cover story, the 27-year-old is rattled by reports that her soon-be-ex has a tell-all book in the works. "There's definitely stuff she doesn't want out there," a source tells the mag.
In the meantime, it's back to business for Katy, who will continue her tour with a show in Manila, Philippines, this coming weekend and performances in a slew of European cities next month as she continues to promote her single, "The One That Got Away," a song that seems to have more meaning now than ever before …
