As the ninth season of "American Idol" comes to a close -- just four contestants remain -- last season's champ, Kris Allen, is working hard to make the sometimes awkward transition from reality show winner to serious artist. The dark-haired cutie with puppy dog eyes takes it one step further Tuesday, when he releases his latest single, "The Truth," on iTunes.

But while diehard Kris fans would probably love to hear more of any music from the 24-year-old, many of them weren't too happy about his record label's decision to promote "The Truth" and "Live Like We're Dying" as the first and second singles from his self-titled album. The tunes happen to be two of only three songs on the record that he did not write himself. Apparently, some people were also upset that Jive/19, the record label Kris signed to after winning the show, added the voice of Train singer Pat "Hey, Soul Sister" Monahan to "The Truth" before sending it out. Wasn't our Kris enough?!

Fortunately, the crooner told Entertainment Weekly that all the drama has been blown out of proportion, and that he's really happy with the people he's working alongside: "I'm not gonna say there haven't been things that have happened, some conflicts. Not bad stuff -- I think it's just general stuff that goes on between artists and labels or whatever. But it's really nice to have fans who care about you, who want you to be done right, and for the label and management to treat you right. I think [the fans] felt like I wasn't being cared for and being respected. And I appreciate them worrying about that. But I feel like I am. I really do."

Whew, good to hear, Kris! And hey, fellow fans, do not forget how good Kris Allen can sound singing someone else's song. Just in case you need a refresher, check out this clip of the "Idol" and his former competitor, Allison Iraheta, belting out a brillant cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist" at an appearance last month.
