Tiffani Thiessen was probably hoping she’d be saved by the bell during an appearance on “Today.”
The “White Collar” actress could not hide her displeasure when Dennis Haskins, who played Mr. Belding on “Saved By the Bell” and its TV movies and spin-off, surprised her during a TV trivia game she was playing with the NBC morning show’s hosts on Tuesday.
As Al Roker asked the first question, Haskins, 62, popped up from backstage saying Belding’s catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What is going on here?" The camera then cut to Thiessen, and you could see her cringing as she looked offstage … possibly for her publicist?
Things only got more awkward when Haskins asked Roker if he could “Say hi real quick” to his former co-star … who greeted him with a handshake and no eye contact.
Luckily for everyone involved, Thiessen, 39, did warm up a bit as the group played the game. The actress, who also starred on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” has not been keen on a “Saved By the Bell” reunion, which Jimmy Fallon first tried to make happen in 2009. It didn’t, but in August of that year, the cast – minus Mr. Belding or Dustin Diamond, who played Screech – posed for a People magazine cover.
"When you're young you don't think, 'This is something I'm going to cherish forever,'" Thiessen told the magazine. "But I spent a lot of formative years on the show. We had a lot of firsts together."
