"Fashion Star" premieres tonight on NBC and mentors Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos are all returning from last season.
omg! chatted recently with Richie about the show and she also shared with us a few style tips for spring.
"This is my second year on the show and there were some changes," Richie said about her mindset as a mentor this time. "John, Jessica and I all wanted more time with the designers to be able to focus on working with them, so we each were assigned designers to work with."
Continued Richie: "I'm really looking for the contestants that create unique designs that still have widespread appeal."
Simpson revealed this week that her second pregnancy has been much more difficult, so we asked Richie (who is a mother of two) what advice she would give her fellow mentor.
"Make some time for yourself," Richie shared. "Just take it day by day."
Oh, and since babies were the topic at hand, Richie told omg! "we'll see" when asked if she wanted to have more kids. However, being a mother has definitely shaped how Richie styles herself now.
"Comfort is important to me because I am running after my kids, picking them up from school and just overall have a crazy schedule," she said. "When I'm at home, I wear sweats!"
Between her family and career, Richie revealed it's important to try and squeeze in "me" time.
"I really enjoy getting together for girls nights where I can just relax and catch up," she said.
When she isn't a mentor on "Fashion Star" Richie is still hard at work on her own fashion lines, House of Harlow and Winter Kate.
"I'll be keeping with the music-inspired influence in style that I love, but there will definitely be some surprises," she teased about her upcoming collections. "I [dislike] the trend to be trendy. You should just dress for yourself and your own personal style."
"Personally, I get a lot of my inspiration from music and mixing patterns, so I'll be wearing a lot of those types of styles," continued Richie about her spring must-haves. "One of my favorite beauty products right now is the Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil. It's the quickest way to add lightweight shine and helps condition my hair."
For the second year in a row, Richie is a paid spokeswoman for Suave Professionals.
"I was excited to learn about the launch of the Shine Suite on Suave.com," she told us. "The latest beauty and fashion secrets shouldn't be coveted only by insiders - they should be accessible to everyone. By visiting the Shine Suite, everyone has access to the latest beauty and fashion trends, and they can also enter for the chance to shine with instant giveaways, weekly prizes and a grand prize of $100,000!"
Check out the Shine Suite here and be sure to tune into "Fashion Star" tonight on NBC!
