Michelle Williams belted out the National Anthem Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium as a part of the NHL Stadium Series and got a little taste of the frigid temperatures Bruno Mars will be facing when he takes the stage for the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday. After all, temperatures were around 12 degrees. Brr!
"The Insider" co-anchor Kevin Frazier caught up with the Destiny's Child singer, 32, before and after she hit the outdoor ice hockey rink and had a few words of wisdom to impart on Mr. Mars.
1. Do tons of warm ups. And that doesn't just mean hovering in front of a space heater — that includes vocal and facial exercises. "When I was sound-checking, my mouth could barely move," Williams said. "So I had to do these extra vocal exercises to literally stretch your mouth."
2. Wear plastic disposable gloves underneath a layer of fleece gloves. "This keeps the wind from piercing through your gloves into your skin," she said. "I'm going to be as cute as possible everyone, but I'm going to be warm."
3. Enjoy the adrenaline rush. Williams admitted that she "wasn't thinking [about the cold] when I said yes to this many months ago … The adrenaline kept me warm. That was great. It wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be."
