As the host of "Our America With Lisa Ling," Lisa Ling is used to traveling up to two-and-a-half weeks per month.
That will all change soon when she gives birth to her first child, a daughter, with husband Dr. Paul Song. The mom-to-be plans a three-month break from her documentary-style OWN show, which returns this month.
"I'll still travel a bit, and I'm still going to do "Our America,' but I will definitely have to adjust," she says, speaking to omg! from a shoot in Terlingua, Texas. "But you know what's interesting is I get asked that every day. People are always curious .... but not a single person has asked my husband if he's going to slow down, and I think it's pretty interesting."
She caught us there! While Ling says her hubby will most likely reduce his schedule as well, she reveals she also plans to hire a nanny to help her transition from a childless lifestyle to that of a working mom. Ling's own mother and mother-in-law, who live near the Santa Monica, California-based couple, will also be on hand.
"I'm nervous, because I'm 39 years old, and I've sort of been living a certain life for all these years – my husband's 47 – and our lives will completely change in an instant in a way that will force us to be so much more selfless, which is really, really scary."
While Ling was open about her parenthood anxiety, she wouldn't reveal the name she and Song have chosen for their little one. "As someone who's had a couple miscarriages, even though I'm seven months along, it's still really scary every day," Ling explains. "I'm constantly just checking to see if she's moving."
But Ling adds that this pregnancy has been much easier than most – probably because she's always worked out regularly and eaten healthy foods.
"I'm someone who has always used low-calorie sweeteners or zero-calorie sweeteners, but most of them are not natural, and so for my decaf coffee I drink every single morning and my plain yogurt, I use it with Nectresse, because I need that sweetness," says Ling, referring to the natural sweetener that she promotes.
"But I'm someone who just doesn't like a lot of sauces. I'm lucky I don't eat a lot of sugar. I'm not a big dessert person. I'm still not eating tons of carbs, and when I do I try to eat whole wheat or buckwheat noodles, instead of white pasta." The only difference is now that she’s expecting, Ling says she’s been known to "consume a lot more, lots of protein."
That should be one healthy baby!
