Humphries is going through another breakup... with his lawyer.
The Brooklyn Nets star and his divorce attorney are having their own relationship drama. Marshall W. Waller – the lawyer who slammed Kim Kardashian’s “unplanned pregnancy” in a legal filing earlier this month – has asked to be removed as counsel in the high-profile divorce case, according to court papers obtained by omg!.
Waller filed the motion on Thursday, noting there had been an "irremediable breakdown" of his attorney-client relationship with Humphries. He said he informed Humphries of his decision via mail.
There are unconfirmed reports that Waller and Humphries disagreed over the hoops star's attempt to annul the marriage due to "fraud."
Humphries still has his out-of-state lawyer, Lee Hutton. However, Hutton needs to be sponsored by another California attorney in order for him to actively participate in the divorce case.
All of this comes at an interesting time – lawyers for Humphries and Kardashian will be facing off in court Friday morning. Kardashian’s team has been trying to establish a trial date in the slow-moving case, which was filed in October 2011 following the couple’s 72-day marriage, but accuses Humphries and his legal team of dragging their feet.
However, now that Humphries’ lawyer Waller wants out, it could delay the divorce even further. An additional hearing – to decide whether the judge will approve Waller’s request – will take place March 20.
Of course, there is a ticking tock in this matter. Kardashian’s baby with boyfriend Kanye West is due in July and she’s made it explicitly clear that she wants to be free and clear of her ex by then.
