Katy Perry and John Mayer's budding love has its critics, but the pair got a glowing endorsement from an industry heavyweight on Saturday.
At his annual pre-Grammy party, music honcho Clive Davis took time to acknowledge the couple, who were both decked out in white for the gala held at the Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom.
"I read the papers and I know who you've been spending time with," Davis said with a smile, making both singers blush a bit.
"Welcome back," Davis said to Mayer, who was sidelined in 2012 after a bought of granuloma (an inflammation of the vocal chords). "And Katy... is reaching peak faster than any artist of our time," he added.
Perry and Mayer took in performances from the Patti Smith Group and DJ Afrojack but they were particularly excited about R&B singer Miguel, a Grammy nominee for hits like "Adorn." He had John and Katy on their feet dancing for his two-song set.
Additional Davis revelers included Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Kenneth "Baby Face" Edmonds, Diane Warren, Akon, and Sting.
