Back in 2011, Jim Carrey listed his swanky oceanfront home in Malibu, California, for $18 million and then sat back and waited for the offers to roll in.
Cut to two years later and the “Bruce Almighty” actor finally sold the place, according to real estate website Zillow, albeit for $4.6 million less than what he was shooting for. Final sale price: $13.4 million.
Carrey knew he was in trouble back in December 2011, when he took the place off the market, only to list it again in June of 2012, slashing the price all the way down to $13.95 million, and officially selling it on April 30 of this year. But the 51-year-old can’t complain too much, he’s still making a tidy profit on the sale, considering he picked up the place for a mere $9.75 million back in 2002.
No word on who the new owner is, but he or she will be surrounded by celebrities in the new place, which is located in the gated enclave of Malibu Colony. Current famous residents include Leonardo DiCaprio (whose home you can rent for just $75,000 a month!), "Knocked Up" director Judd Apatow and his wife, Leslie Mann (who just dropped $11 million on a home down the road earlier this year), actress Laura Dern, and tennis great John McEnroe, while Hollywood couples like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen previously called the hood home.
As for details on Carrey’s now-former residence, the contemporary-style abode includes three bedrooms and four bathrooms and is actually kind of small by celeb standards: totaling only 2,866 square feet. But every square foot sure is stunning. The place features tons of glass for staring out at those soaring ocean views from most rooms, multiple outdoor decks, a hot tub, a sleek kitchen with high-end stainless-steel appliances, a couple of fireplaces, and an outdoor shower … an amenity we’re guessing most stars usually pass on using these days thanks to the advent of cell phone cameras. But with Jim, you never know!
