Presenting the future Mrs. West!
It seems like just yesterday that Kim was walking down the aisle to the tune of $10 million to marry Kris Humphries, but a lot has happened since that fateful day — so much, in fact, that it's nearly impossible to keep it all straight. And that's precisely why we've created this nifty little timeline tracking how their friendship led to love and a baby and an intended marriage. Love them or hate them (or love to hate them), you have to give them credit for being efficient.
Back in the Day: According to Kanye, he first met Kim Kardashian when she was Brandy's assistant and they were both working on the pop star's music video. Even though he can't recall the exact date (sometime in 2004, it seems), Kanye claims it was "love at first sight." Around the same time, Kim's marriage to music producer Damon Thomas was ending in divorce.
September 2007: Kim and Kanye are photographed together for the first time when they attend the opening of Intermix in Beverly Hills. However, she's dating NFL player Reggie Bush and he's newly engaged to aspiring designer Alexis Phifer. West, Phifer, and Kardashian pose for a photo which, looking back, seems super awkward.
February 2009: West and Kardashian are seated one spot away from each another at the Y-3 show during New York Fashion Week. She seems more interested in him than she does in the show ... or boyfriend Bush. However, the same week, West goes public with his new romance with model Amber Rose — and he seems really into her.
June 2010: Single after her split with Bush, Kardashian starts dating Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin. In September, the strain of a long-distance relationship takes its toll and the couple calls it quits.
November 2010: After going on a few dates with model Gabriel Aubry, Kardashian starts seeing NBA player Kris Humphries. While the world doesn't know it yet, West, who has split with Rose, falls in love with the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star at this time. He later sings about it in his song "Cold," saying, "And I'll admit, I had fell in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fell in love with him," referring to Humphries.
August 20, 2011: After just a 90-day engagement, Kardashian marries Humphries in an over-the-top affair at an estate in Montecito, California. The star-studded event was filmed for a two-part, four-hour reality TV special on E!.
October 31, 2011: After just 72 days of marriage, Kardashian files for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences," and lists their separation date as that day. They begin a nasty divorce battle that continues until June 2013.
March 6, 2012: Following rumors that Kardashian and West had secretly started seeing each other, she appears in the front row at his ready-to-wear show during Paris Fashion Week. Photographers capture him posing with his arm around her fur-clad shoulder and looking very cozy.
April 5, 2012: Kardashian is seen walking into West's New York City apartment … and emerging the next day wearing the same outfit. They also reportedly go on a date to see "The Hunger Games." Soon after she's seen wearing earrings with his initials.
April 9, 2012: Kim's sister Kourtney says that Kim and Kanye are "definitely friends," but refuses to confirm any romantic involvement. But let's be honest, she's not fooling anyone.
April 23, 2012: After Kim spends a few more days being photographed in those telling earrings, she and Kanye take their romance public by holding hands as they stroll down a New York City street. Looking dapper in polished black ensembles, the new couple enjoys a late dinner at the Meatpacking District hot spot Catch. Though Kim avoids eye contact with photographers, she can't help but smile, clearly smitten.
May 10, 2012: West accompanies Kardashian to Toronto to celebrate the Canadian debut of her jewelry line. For the first time since they started dating, they pose together.
May 23, 2012: They make their red carpet debut at the premiere of "Cruel Summer" at the Cannes Film Festival, where they put on a PDA display that really gets tongues wagging. It's apparent West has started styling Kardashian; she starts embracing high-fashion looks.
June 12, 2012: Things get so serious … Kardashian tweets of photo of them wearing matching sneakers.
June 24, 2012: On "Oprah's Next Chapter," Kardashian is asked if West fits the bill of what she's looking for in a man. "He does," the still-married star answers, before adding, "I'm not thinking about marriage right now." As for talk that their relationship is a publicity stunt, she says, "No. ... I couldn't sacrifice my heart for a publicity stunt."
December 30, 2012: During his concert in Atlantic City, Kanye takes a break from performing (in the middle of a song, we might add) to tell the audience, "Make noise for my baby mama right there" as he pointed to Kim. This is surprising not only because the pair hadn't been together all that long, but also because Kanye isn't known for being the most… umm… open about his personal life. From this point on, it seems Kim is rubbing off on the notoriously private musician.
December 31, 2012: Kardashian confirms the news on her blog, writing, "It's true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky. ... Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!!"
April 15, 2013: omg! reports that in the three-plus months since their baby announcement, the couple has spent about 18 days together … and the majority of that time was only because Kardashian traveled to where West was. He spends most of his time in France making a new album.
May 6, 2013: The couple hits the red carpet for the Costume Institute Gala's "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her look is widely panned ... in fact, so is her entire maternity wardrobe.
June 2, 2013: Kim reveals that she was having a baby girl on the season 8 premiere of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" before adding that that was precisely what West had been hoping for. "Who doesn't want a girl?" she muses with a smile.
June 3, 2013: Though they reached a settlement back on April 19, Kim and Kris aren't officially divorced until the final paperwork is signed. Though the agreement wasn't due until June 19, they managed to get it done a few weeks early, which is certainly nice for the expectant mom because it closed this chapter just before she started the next: motherhood.
June 15, 2013: Roughly one month before her expected due date (though there was always speculation that the date given to the public was "doctored"), Kim gives birth to a healthy baby girl at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Reportedly, Kanye hadn't been expecting Kim to go into labor that night and had to cancel a listening session at the last minute in order to rush to her side.
June 21, 2013: One week after giving birth, news breaks that Kim and Kanye have named their daughter North West with no middle name, putting to rest reports that they would chose a moniker starting with a K to keep with the Kardashian female tradition.
October 15, 2013: As Kim moves on from her last marriage, so does her former better half. Kris Humphries auctions off Kim's old engagement ring at Christie's in New York for $749,000, of which the basketball player will collect $620,000. (The rest goes to the auction house.)
October 19, 2013: Kanye shows his baby mama some love by donning a t-shirt with a naked Kim printed on the front. (Since we included her K and W earrings, we couldn't leave this relationship milestone out!)
October 21, 2013: The night of Kim's 33rd birthday, it's announced that the reality star turned lifestyle mogul is engaged to Kanye. The rapper reportedly rented out San Francisco's AT&T Park Stadium to pop the question to the new mom in front of their close family and friends. Kim, who obviously said yes, proudly flashes her new bauble for the cameras.
While we're sure Kim couldn't be happier with her new bling, we couldn't help but note that this sparkler is made by Lorraine Schwartz — the same jewelry designer who made Kim's last. Maybe the second ring's a charm? Then again, maybe it has more to do with the groom.
