Following Sunday's news that Elizabeth Vargas checked back into rehab, Yahoo can confirm that the 20/20 co-anchor and her husband, singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, are divorcing.

Cohn, 55, released a statement on Wednesday: "On behalf of Elizabeth's family, we are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well."

The couple wed in 2002 and have two sons, Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 8. They are currently in New York with their father while Vargas, 51, seeks treatment (she entered a facility this weekend while on vacation).

"As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process," the ABC News reporter said in a statement. "I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry. I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time."

ABC also issued a statement in support of Vargas. "Nothing is more important than Elizabeth's health and well-being and we stand squarely behind her. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth and her family and we look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return."

Vargas first entered rehab last November at the urging of her husband. "Like so many people, I am dealing with addiction. I realized I was becoming increasingly dependent on alcohol. And feel fortunate to have recognized it for the problem it was becoming," she said at the time.

In March 2014, the New York Post's Page Six reported that the "Walking in Memphis" singer had an affair while his wife was seeking treatment.

"I will not comment on what is an extremely sensitive and private family matter — addiction and recovery are serious challenges and it's been a tough road for all of us," Cohn told People about the infidelity reports. "I have been supportive of Elizabeth in the past — and will continue to be — regardless of the long-standing issues in our relationship."
