Cory Monteith and Lea Michele seemed as close as ever at the time of his sudden death. He even popped in while she was doing a magazine cover shoot to lend his support.
The "Glee" actress, 26, graces the cover of August's Marie Claire Mexico, eerily wearing all black ― though in the form of a sexy, cleavage-exposing, pantless ensemble ― and a serious expression. And we have learned that her boyfriend and co-star, who died of a heroin and alcohol overdose on July 13 at the age of 31, was with her at the shoot, which took place in Beverly Hills on June 7.
"Lea Michele arrived early with her beauty team and her agent and was always professional, dedicated, and her experience was obvious on the photo shoot but showed another side of her personality, softer and more innocent, on the interview," said the magazine's editor-in-chief, Ariadne Grant. "That side was even more evident when Cory showed up almost at the end of the session, she was very happy about him being there.
Grant described Monteith as being "in great spirits" and "very nice to everybody there." She added, "He even took pictures with whoever asked for it. He just asked for a Coke and stayed there watching the shooting until it was done. They were both very nice and obviously happy and in love, we are very disrupted by the unfortunate and untimely events. Our thoughts are with Lea."
In the interview, Michele opened up about her relationship with Monteith, which recently weathered a rough patch when she helped stage an intervention that led to him checking into rehab in March.
"It's more interesting having a relationship with someone you work with because we get more attention because we play boyfriend and girlfriend on the show and we are also in real life," she told the magazine, according to E! News. "But he is the best person I know, he has made my life so incredible and I am so thankful for him and not only to have him as a partner but also as a coworker."
Heartbreakingly, she also said, "It is important to have someone that supports you and encourage you, someone that makes you feel that you are unstoppable, that you can do anything in the world because you have him."
Monteith and Michele were apart when he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room. The Canadian actor checked into the hotel on July 6 and spent several days hiking the Juan de Fuca trail on Vancouver Island and reconnecting with old friends. On the day he was supposed to check out of the hotel, housekeeping staff discovered him dead in his room.
Michele, who issued a statement thanking fans for their support after Monteith's death, has been grieving alongside his mother and helped her make the necessary arrangements for the late star. According to "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy, she is also planning a memorial to be attended by the cast and crew of the Fox show that will take place this week on the Paramount lot.
