It's 60 and counting for Chaz Bono.
The transgender only child of singer Cher and Sonny Bono showed up at the GLAAD Media Awards this past weekend a fraction of his former self.
People magazine has been chronicling the former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant's weight loss closely, and two months after announcing that he was down 43 pounds, he now tells the mag that he's down another 17, well past the 50-pound weight-loss goal he set for himself back in November.
"I've just changed the way I eat," he told People. "Diets don't work. You just have to change what you eat, and I have."
He attributes his nutritional changes to the delivered-meal plan Freshology.
"I really avoid grains and starches, so meats and vegetables and fruits are my diet. I make them all different ways to keep it interesting," he continued.
Bono, who in 2012 received GLAAD's Stephen F. Kolzak Award and also won for Outstanding Documentary, spoke with reporters on the red carpet last weekend about why he continues to advocate for marriage equality.
"I mean, I think the goal always has to be equality in all aspects under the law," he told the Associated Press. "You're never going to eradicate discrimination. We see that with other minorities. Racism is still, unfortunately, alive and well. But equal protection under the law makes a huge difference. So, I think, for me, that is the goal, that is the thing to strive for."
