Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards may not have made the best couple when they were married but they have become amicable exes -- and they presented a united front in court on Tuesday.
The former flames were photographed exiting a Los Angeles-area court after a hearing related to Richards assuming temporary custody of Sheen and his ex-wife Brooke Mueller's 4-year-old sons, Max and Bob, while the real estate investor seeks treatment for drug addiction. Richards, 42, appeared serious as she exited the courthouse in a short black suit; 47-year-old Sheen, who was dressed in a blue suit and tie, hammed it up for photographers, flashing a thumbs up sign and shaking hands with people before hopping into a waiting limousine.
The adorable twins accompanied Sheen and Richards to court for the closed-door session, and were carried to the car by handlers when the session concluded.
As for what went down in court, it is confidential -- and Sheen indicated so much outside court as he also made a gesture that showed him zipping his lips and throwing away the key.
As previously reported, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services removed the twins from Mueller's care last week due to her alleged continuing prescription drug abuse. The 35-year-old reportedly hadn't been living at her home for several weeks prior to the children being taken away and her whereabouts had been unknown.
Mueller's current location is less of a mystery. Her rep told E! News that she's in UCLA Medical Center and that is where she will remain until she is moved "directly into a residential treatment facility to get help for prescription drug abuse." She has publicly struggled with addiction for several years.
Meanwhile, Richards -- who has two daughters with Sheen, Sam, 9, and Lola, 7, as well as a third daughter she adopted in 2011, Eloise, almost 2 -- has stepped in to care for the twins for an undetermined amount of time, a decision signed off on by both Mueller and Sheen.
In a statement given to omg! by Sheen's rep last week, the "Anger Management" star said he knew Max and Bob were "safe and in a stable, loving environment with Denise and the boys's sisters," and that Sheen would "fully cooperate and fully participate in all proceedings," which he appeared to be doing on Tuesday.
