Not only is Jared Leto a talented actor and singer but he’s also proving to have quite the list of surprising hidden talents. The “Dallas Buyers Club” star posted an Instagram video on Thursday showing off his kung fu moves.
And while he may have been acting silly in the video, he has had a longtime interest in Chinese martial arts, and it has even had an influence on his band, 30 Seconds to Mars. The music video for “From Yesterday” was shot in China. Leto spoke to MTV in 2007 about what inspired him to shoot in that location, saying, “The passion and the history of the Chinese culture — I thought it would be the perfect setting to tell the story of ‘From Yesterday.’”
But kung fu isn’t the only physical skill the star possesses. He loves skateboarding, biking, hiking, and rock climbing. The 42-year-old has even climbed up scaffolds during his concerts, and in 2008 he dished on his passion for vertical adventures to People magazine: “I’m a closet rock climber. I love being on the edge.”
Leto definitely lives on the edge, but he spends his free time in other ways, too. The actor has some mad skills in the kitchen! He posted a video recently on Instagram in which he’s flipping pancakes. And while he may not be adding chef to his credentials anytime soon, he has studied painting and once thought it could become his career. He revealed this to Vanity Fair: “I was studying figurative painting. I wanted to be a fine artist. That was really what I thought I would do with my life.” He added, “Then I was taking a photography class, and a sculptor class, and a pottery class.”
Even though his dreams of being a painter didn't come true, Leto hasn’t let go of his artistic side and has put his photography skills to use. He released Notes from The Outernet, highlighting photos from his travels all over the world.
