GQ magazine's latest Men of the Year issue is filled with plenty of names you might expect -- Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon -- and one you might not: Kristen Wiig. Yep, in an unprecedented move, the 38-year-old comic actress and writer landed the magazine's "Bro of the Year" award. Fittingly, her "Bridesmaids" co-star Jon Hamm wrote the tribute. "The first time I noticed her was watching the 'SNL' sketch 'Lady Business,'" he recalls. "Kristen's line was 'I'm a bitch in the boardroom, a bore in the bedroom, and I'm a bear on the toilet,' which she delivered with over-the-top seriousness. I thought, 'My God, this girl is funny.'"
After working with her in the bawdy breakout hit, Hamm only became more impressed, which he sums up with a look back at the day they shot the wacky sex scene that opens the movie. "Our embarrassment coupled with everyone else's exhaustion lent that scene a particularly awkward sensibility," he says. "But it was inspiring to watch Kristen quarterback the team, be the cheerleader and decisionmaker, and then get in front of the camera and be hilarious."
Could Wiig's "Bro of the Year" honor have a larger meaning? Are women being taken as seriously as men in the entertainment industry? Is this a tiny step towards real gender equality? Well, considering the photo accompanying the story features her wearing an open blazer, no pants, and high heels, probably not.
