Katie Holmes vs. Anne Hathaway — Fashion Faceoff

OMG Aline

Even the most stylish stars have to keep it casual sometimes! Katie Holmes and Anne Hathaway, two ladies who regularly step out in red carpet fashions during awards season, recently donned an easy, chambray dress by Madewell as they endured the dog days of summer on the streets of NYC. There's no denying that both had adorable companions: daughter Suri for Holmes, and dog Esmeralda for Hathaway. But what about the rest of their looks? The newly single Holmes, 33, rocked the frock while taking Suri to her regular gymnastics class at Chelsea Piers on July 10. She added lots of nice touches to her ensemble, including green flats, a skinny brown belt, a gold cuff, a charm necklace, sunglasses, and a ponytail. The Holmes & Yang designer's style has become much more relaxed since the demise of TomKat!

Hathaway, 29, tried the dress on for size while out walking her precious pooch on July 1. She paired it with white tennis shoes, a necklace, and shades. The "Dark Knight Rises" actress, who's engaged to actor Adam Shulman, topped it all off with a big floppy hat.

The Madewell dress is cute, versatile (Hathaway has also sported it with cowboy boots), and — at $138 — much less expensive than most of their clothes! In this case, however, it clearly worked better for Holmes, thanks to her excellent accessorizing. Hathaway had a lot going on between the hat and the sunglasses, but somehow her look was still a little too plain. So I say the winner of this style showdown is Holmes, who, come to think of it, was once mocked by Hathaway on an episode of "Saturday Night Live." Ah, revenge is sweet …
