It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas … on Kate Winslet's head. The "Mildred Pierce" actress really got into the holiday spirit over the weekend when she donned a figure-hugging red dress, which she accessorized with a gigantic gold fascinator that resembled a Christmas tree topper! But she wasn't at a holiday party. Instead, Winslet attended the Longines Hong Kong Cup horse race with her boyfriend, Ned Rocknroll, the nephew of Virgin honcho Sir Richard Branson.
After the competition, the 37-year-old actress was presented with a bouquet of flowers from the winning jockey, Matthew Chadwick, and the diminutive athlete reportedly had to duck out of the way to avoid getting clocked by her cumbersome hat when he gave her a hug.
But although Winslet's fascinator may look gaudy, it's certainly not cheap. It was designed by Philip Treacy, who has created memorable headpieces for Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, and even the much-mocked enormous bow Princess Beatrice wore to the Royal Wedding in April 2011 … which later went on to fetch nearly $130,000 for charity at an auction.
Though she was easy to spot at this particular event, Winslet has been laying pretty low lately. The Oscar winner didn't appear in any films released this year, but she does have three set for 2013. Instead, she's been spending her time with Rocknroll (who changed his name from Ned Abel Smith) in the U.K., where they live with her two children Mia, 12, and Joe, 8, in a 15th century house in West Sussex.
