Gisele Bundchen appears to have it all: beauty, fame, wealth, and a new marriage to Tom Brady.
In the latest issue of Vanity Fair (on newsstands April 7), the supermodel admits there was a time when her relationship with her handsome husband was less than picture-perfect. Read what Gisele told Leslie Bennetts about finding out Brady's ex-girlfriend was pregnant with his baby, and how the newlyweds plan on facing future challenges.
On learning that Bridget Moynahan (Tom's ex) was pregnant:
"It was definitely a surprise for both of us. In the beginning you're living this romantic fantasy;you're thinking, 'This can't be true, it's so good!' And then,Whoops -- wake-up call! We were dating two and ahalf months when he found out, and it was a very challenging situation.Obviously, in the beginning, it's not the ideal thing."
On whether she should've encouraged Brady to re-unite with his former girlfriend:
"You question at times -- 'Should I stay here? Maybe you should work thisout.' But when people break up, it's for a reason."
On how the pregnancy affected their relationship:
"I think it was a blessing, because otherwise I don't think I wouldhave known what [Tom] was made of, and he wouldn't have known what I wasmade of. I wouldn't have seen the integrity in him -- the wayhe was a good person through all the times. I was like, 'You have theheart in a good place!' It made me feel more in love with him."
On being a mother to John Edward Thomas Moynahan, Tom's now 18-month-old son:
"I understand that he has a mom, and I respect that, but to me it's not like because somebody else delivered him, that's not my child. I feel it is, 100 percent. I want him to have a great relationship with his mom, because that's important, but I love him the same way as if he were mine. I already feel like he's my son, from the first day."
"My idea of that is you have a partner who's got your back. When I'm weak, you can be strong; when I'm strong, you can be weak. That's what I believe marriage is. Loving someone, you want to grow with them, share with them, share the same values, the same feelings about things, the same beliefs."
On facing future challenges together:
"We are saying, 'What can we learn from this [Moynahan's pregnancy]? How can we make the best out of this?' We both grew a lot. There is good in everything; it's just how you choose to look at it. You know that saying, 'If you want to make God laugh, you tell him your plans'? But you adapt."
