Say what you will about Sean "Diddy" Combs, but the guy's a hustler. He has his hand in everything! The music mogul started his Sean John clothing line in 1998, and even won the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Award for Menswear Designer of the Year in 2004. He owns a restaurant called Justin's (named after his son) in Atlanta, has his own fragrance, produces MTV shows ("Making the Band"), has appeared on Broadway ("A Raisin in the Sun"), and even stars alongside Russell Brand in "Get Me to the Greek," which hits theaters on June 4. Where does he find the time?
Now, following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga, Combs has teamed up with Dr. Dre, Interscope Records, and Monster Cable to create Diddybeats -- state-of-the-art in-ear headphones that come in black, white, and pink ... and pack a powerful punch.
Diddy -- who was named "One of the Most Influential Businessmen in the World" by Time Magazine and CNN -- said he jumped at the chance to join the Beats By Dr. Dre headphone family.
"Everything I do, I try to surround it [with] entertainment," noted Combs at the launch party held at Best Buy in his hometown of NYC. "And when I saw [Monster Cable, Interscope Records, Beats By Dr. Dre] doing beats, to be honest, I was like, 'Whoa. I can't believe they got to that before me!' So when I got the call, I was kind of relieved. Because we're all competitors in a good way and this is a different type of way to look at competition. Forget the competition, and let's work together. I was happy that I wasn't left out of it ... it was always a dream of mine so I was just happy that they let me be down with the situation."
Apparently, Diddy really did do more than just lend his name to the headphones. He had actual input on the product when it came to its sound profile, and had lots to say about its overall look.
While Diddybeats don't come cheap (they retail for $149.99 at Best Buy stores), they're sleek and promise to deliver premium sound for serious music lovers.
