Bill Murray and Original Ghostbusters Cast Praise Female-Led Reboot: 'These Girls Did a Really Good Job'

If you needed yet another reason to watch the new Ghostbusters film, Bill Murray and the original 1984 cast have given their stamps of approval.

On Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts expressed very high praise for their franchise successors Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, all whom star in Paul Feig's re-imagined female-led reboot.

"We're really really happy," Aykroyd, 63, said about his reaction after watching the movie. "These women performers are great and all the guys in the movie are just fine too." Aykroyd co-wrote the 1984 script with the late Harold Ramis and premiered it 32 years ago on June 8.

'The girls are amazing and really really funny," Hudson, 70, shared.

Original parapsychologists Murray, 65, echoed similar sentiments saying, "I couldn't be happier, these girls did a really good job." When asked by Kimmel why he this reboot version was so appealing to him, Murray credited the casting choices.

"It was only because these girls were funny," he said, adding, "When you see the film, you think 'are these girls gonna pull it off?' There's no quit in these girls, this is a tough movie to pull off, it's a big concept, there's a lot on the plate, there's a lot of expectations."

Ultimately at the end of their viewing, Murray and the original cast "were screaming, cheering like at a sporting event."

During the primetime Game Night episode that aired prior to Wednesday's NBA Finals, McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones joined Kimmel on the couch to discuss the online backlash of the film.

The late-night host asked the ladies about those "guys who have very empty lives," and say they don't want an all-female reboot "because only men can fight imaginary ghosts in a make-believe movie."

McCarthy responded: "What they don't say when they're typing is that one minute after they type that, their moms are like, 'Get upstairs and take out the garbage! You're 45 years old!'"
