Bernie Sanders Buys His Third Home – A $600K Summer Retreat in Vermont

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has a new home away from home.

The former White House contender is now the proud owner of a nearly $600,000 summer retreat on Vermont's Champlain Islands, the Vermont newspaper Seven Days reported Monday.

Sanders' new home, located on a waterfront camp in the small town of North Hero, has four bedrooms and 500 feet of beachfront on Lake Champlain.

"We've traveled up to the islands many times over the years – almost always on day trips," Sanders' wife, Jane, said in a statement to Seven Days. "The entire family is very excited about it."

"We've always been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby."

She added that they were able to purchase the new home after selling her family's lake house in Maine.

This is the Sanders family's third home. They also own a row house on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and a modest colonial home in Burlington, Vermont, which PEOPLE visited in December 2015.
