Andy Cohen: Donald Trump Reminds Me of an ‘Orange County’ Housewife

God bless Andy Cohen. Not only is he doing his part to help man’s best friend, but the television personality just gave us the best Donald Trump comparison we never knew we needed.

Yahoo Celebrity recently spoke with the Watch What Happens Live host and chatted about the current state of politics, the latest on those Live With Kelly rumors, and his new partnership with Purina One dog food.

Cohen is supporting the brand’s ONE Difference initiative, Mutt-i-grees, which celebrates the difference shelter-led educational programs can make in the lives of both students and shelter dogs.

“I love my rescue dog, and I found out about this Mutt-i-grees program that Purina has aligned with on their ONE Difference campaign, where they take shelter dogs into schools and they teach kids about how to care for dogs, and it just seemed really cool,” he told us about this collaboration. “It was beneficial for the kids and the shelter dogs, so I went and I checked it out and it was great. Seeing how the kids perked up in the classroom when the dogs came in, and how the dogs loved interacting with the kids — it was just really sweet,” he said, noting that between now and Sept. 9, Purina One will send a $10 donation to Mutt-i-grees (up to $30,000), for each person who signs up for the Purina One 28-Day Challenge. “And it’s free to sign up. It’s a win-win, and it’s a good project.”

Cohen credits his rescue pup, Wacha, who frequently makes appearances both on Watch What Happens Live and his social media accounts, with changing his life.

“He was in a shelter in West Virginia. Rescuing is so important because there are just so many great dogs that are available for rescue,” he told us. “They’re great dogs! The idea of buying a dog just doesn’t make sense when you can save a dog’s life and save your own life. These dogs know and they are just very grateful. I just feel like Wacha is extra good with me because he knows that he was in a rough place.”

Someone else who’s currently in a rough place? Donald Trump.

While the Republican presidential candidate is falling in national polls, there’s one poll he can’t seem to lose on Watch What Happens Live. Cohen has asked WWHL viewers twice to cast their vote for Trump or Hillary Clinton, and the Donald has won both times.

“I know, isn’t that wild?! I guess I should make a few less Trump jokes,” quipped the Bravo mastermind. “It could also mean that Trump voters are more inclined to vote in a TV poll than Hillary voters. There are a lot of nuances in what that could mean,” he laughed. “You know what I mean? But it is fascinating, trust me. It’s happened twice now! I’m definitely fascinated by it.”

So would Cohen ever ask Trump to be a guest in the Bravo Clubhouse?

“He reminds me of a first-season Orange County housewife,” he cracked. “He’ll say anything, he’ll do anything, and he hasn’t gotten his makeup right. So he’d fit right in!”

We can totally see Trump sparring with the O.G. of the O.C. Vicki Gunvalson — c’mon, Andy, make it happen!

While Cohen remains a fixture on Watch What Happens Live, don’t expect to wake up with him every morning on Live With Kelly. Cohen has been a fan and network favorite to replace Michael Strahan on the ABC morning show, but it’s not going to happen.

“I love Kelly; I was with her last night after my show,” he said of his BFF Kelly Ripa. “The truth of the matter is I’m locked up to NBCUniversal, so I couldn’t do it even if I wanted to. I love co-hosting and I hope that they keep having me back to co-host as much as possible. I was there a week or two ago and I’ll be back soon … [but] I’m locked up long enough that I can’t co-host or take this full-time job.”

At least we still have Andy five nights a week on Bravo.
