A Tale of Two Kates

Here we have, taken Thursday night at the annual gala for the GO Campaign, a photo of one Katy Perry and Kate Hudson. Perry, born Katheryn Hudson, actually has Kate Hudson to thank for her name.

When Perry was just starting out in the pop music biz, she dropped her real last name, Hudson, in favor of her mother’s maiden name, Perry, so people wouldn’t confuse her with the OG Kate Hudson.

Years later, the two are good friends.

In fact, it was at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party last year that Perry wore what remains one of the greatest celebrity costumes of all time: the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto.

In 2013, Perry said that their friendship is based on a mutual appreciation of the game Mafia.

“When we text, it’s like ‘Hudson here,'” Perry joked. “We are buds and we get along. … We have become friends and go to game nights together, we play this game called Mafia … we play it all the time.”
