Your Concealer Questions Answered

Dear Bobbi,

I’ve got really dark circles under my eyes. I’ve had them my entire life and it is my mission to find a way to cover them up. What are your tips for covering dark circles and keeping your under eye area bright?

Best,

Libby

Dear Libby,

For extreme dark circles, I recommend using two products under your eye: a corrector and a concealer. After applying a small amount of eye cream under the eye, use a brush to apply a pink or peach toned corrector where you see darkness. This step will neutralize the darkness and brighten. Wipe your brush and then layer concealer over the corrector to lighten and conceal. Set it with a dusting of powder applied with a brush to keep your concealer from creasing.

Dear Bobbi,

How do I pick the right concealer color? I’ve always been told to test it on the back of your hand but that really doesn’t work for me. How do you know you’ve found the right color?

Thank you so much!

Maeve

Dear Maeve,

A concealer should be one shade lighter than your foundation. Always test the concealer color under your eye to make sure that it brightens, but doesn’t look too white. If it looks too white, it means the color is too light. If it looks too yellow, the color is too dark.

Hey Bobbi,

When should you put on your concealer? Does it come before or after foundation? Does it change if you’re using a tinted moisturizer?

Thanks!

Julia

Dear Julia,

I always teach women to apply under eye corrector and concealer before their foundation. I call it the Secret to the Universe. You instantly look brighter and more awake.

Hi Bobbi,

What’s up with those green concealers? Do they really work to mask redness? Is there a better way to cover up a blemish or red spot?

Thanks for your help!

Theodora

Dear Theodora,

When you apply green concealers to the skin, they ultimately won’t look natural. Try a concealer with yellow or peach undertones. It will look more natural and be able to effectively cover up a red spot.
