A Woman Is Suing Disneyland After Getting Seriously Burned At A Restaurant
A day at Disneyland is supposed to be nonstop fun, but unfortunately accidents can happen even at the happiest place on Earth.
A U.K. woman is suing Disneyland Paris after getting burned by a Crème Brûlée blow torch. Erica Osbourne, a 37-year-old mom, was eating dinner with her daughter at the park's Newport Bay Club Hotel when the incident occurred.
She told the BBC that when a chef lit the sugar on top of her dessert, "a massive fireball came across the counter toward me" (warning - the BBC's photos are graphic).
Her clothing and face caught on fire, producing second-degree burns and burning off parts of her hair and eyebrows. Thankfully, her daughter had gone to get ice cream when the fire happened, but returned to see her mom screaming for help. Osbourne says a chef jumped over the counter and rolled her onto the ground with another customer in order to extinguish the flames.
Osborne is understandably not pleased with the way the incident was handled. She told BBC that just after the incident, "One of the managers said to me that the incident was 'no different to falling off a bike'. I couldn't believe it."
According to Grub Street, Osbourne is asking for a written apology from Disneyland Paris and "for them to make sure this doesn't happen again" - a pretty small penance for such a horrific experience.
A spokesman for the park said because the investigation is ongoing, they would not be commenting on it at this time, but did add that these kinds of incidents are extremely rare.
