Woman Saves Man's Life on Their First Date
A Missouri woman is being called a hero after springing into action to save a man’s life. He also happened to be on a first date with her.
Janie Hall was having lunch with a man at a Cheesecake Factory in Joplin, Missouri, last week when the 50-year-old suddenly collapsed. “Good lord it was scary,” Hall told the Kansas City Star in an interview. “We had a wonderful conversation. It was like a light switch. One minute he was talking about family, and then he’s, like, dead. His body was as stiff as can be.”
Lucky for him, Hall is a former respiratory therapist with experience in the trauma ward. Becca Bartholomew, a server at the restaurant with CPR training also helped Hall resuscitate the man as they waited for paramedics to arrive.
The restaurant’s general manager, Jackie Cockrill, was also there that day and told the Star: “They were performing CPR on this gentleman and he was unconscious, or not breathing, for about four minutes, I’m guessing. We had other patrons. Everyone was kind of in shock and watching. Everybody was very concerned.”
The man gasped for breath just as emergency services arrived. He was taken to a local hospital where as of Monday he was still in recovery. The father of two celebrated a birthday on Wednesday.
Hall and Bartholomew have teamed up to raise money for the man’s medical expenses. The two have set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of raising $10,000.
The two have bonded over the experience and In a post to Facebook Hall writes: “Please help me wish Rebecca Bartholomew a wonderful birthday. Becca is very special to me! We met a week ago during a tragic, yet miraculous event. Becca embodies class, appreciation, and consideration for others. Enjoy your milestone; you do great things Becca! ????”.
