Why Fred Savage Thinks We’ll Never See a ‘Wonder Years’ Revival

It’s been 22 years since we last saw Fred Savage as sweet Kevin Arnold in ABC’s The Wonder Years, and while he’s making a much-heralded return to series TV — his new Fox comedy The Grinder, co-starring Rob Lowe, premieres Sept. 29 — don’t expect an Arnold family reunion anytime soon.

While he sees reboots and revivals working for some shows, he doesn’t believe The Wonder Years is one of them. “What makes that time in your life so special is that it’s finite — it can’t be revisited,” he tells Yahoo TV in the video interview above. “Your adolescence has a beginning and an end, and I think that’s why we look back on it so fondly and so warmly, and we long for those days, and they can haunt us sometimes, and we romanticize them. But only because they kind of exist as this time that was, that you can never really go back to.” In short, “The definition of the show kind of excludes any revisiting.”

Maybe that’s why Mayim Bialik recently told Yahoo TV that she’s never been approached about any kind of Blossom reunion…

The Grinder premieres Sept. 29 at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.
