Remember the scene in The Help when Viola Davis’s character tells the little girl she takes care of to remember that she is kind, smart, and important, and we all bawled? Well, that happens every day in the Alston household, and it’s even better than the movie.

A few weeks ago, personal trainer and YMCA program coordinator Ron Alston posted a video on his Facebook Page, “DFG Health and Wellness (Destined For Greatness),” of him and his daughter Aliya performing their inspiring morning routine. The video shows Alston and his daughter looking in the mirror as she repeats after him. “Is it gonna be a good day? A really good day? Gonna be positive?” Alston asks as the little one nods through adorable giggles. “Say ‘I am strong,’” he begins before she parrots him. He has Aliya say, “I am smart,” “I work hard,” “I am beautiful,” and “I am respectful” before instilling the idea that she is not better than anyone else, nor is anybody better than her. “If you fall,” he prompts, “I get back up,” Aliya responds.

So far the video has received more than 13 million views and has been shared upwards of 330,000 times, but he had no idea it would have such an effect. He explained that Aliya’s morning mantra is a daily routine that gets “more in-depth” as she gets older. “It is great to see so many people inspired to do the same,” Alston wrote in a comment. “In today’s society it is so important for children to be self confident, humble and have a sense of self esteem. Especially our young women.”

He finished with, “Every child is destined for greatness and it is our job to get them there!”

We hope the idea spreads as quickly and vastly as the video has.
