If you keep up with Kim Kardashian, you've noticed that—during the last few months—there's been a pretty substantial shift in the way the reality star approaches makeup. The woman who single-handedly made contouring and spider lashes part of the global conversation suddenly started appearing on carpets, on covers, and in your Insta feed looking, well, natural. A word not always associated with the 36-year-old and her sisters.

Turns out, much of Kim's understated vibe is the work of her longtime makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, who told us at a recent preview of his beloved Master Class that dialing it down, beauty-wise, is what he's most excited about this year—something that takes just as much practice to get right as, say, Insta-brows or baked skin.

"I think it’s great that [women] know how to do heavy makeup and they know how to contour but I think it’s so important for them to also feel comfortable doing natural looks," he says. Into it? Mario suggests starting by using a natural lip color, using a lighter hand when it comes to your favorite brow color, and swapping thick powders for creamier textures so your products seamlessly melt into skin.

That's exactly what he's been doing for Kim since September, after she revealed plans to trade in her signature contouring in for nontouring.

As for what he uses to create Kim's less-is-more look, the makeup artist swears by a few key products: a solid lash curler (his favorite is by Troy Surratt), a good mascara (He likes L'Oréal Voluminous Volume Building Mascara), and a nude lip (Mario has a secret to making sure Kim's is always on point).

Obviously, a little more work usually goes into the finished product—this is Kim Kardashian we're talking about—and Mario is a fan of using makeup on both her legs and on her most infamous body part. Because we know you're probably not going to commit that much evert time you leave the house, he suggests keeping your body as hydrated and glow-y as your face with a do-it-all moisturizer (he likes Jergens Shea Butter Lotion.) "I like to apply it right after you get out of the shower to skin that’s not too dry and it absorbs quickly," he says.
