You might remember two things in particular about Donald Trump as a candidate. One, he really didn't like protesters. And two, he wasn't exactly consistent on many of his views-except, of course, that we need The Wall and we need it now. Neither of those characteristics seems to have faded away now that he is President-elect. Exhibit A: That proposal for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" went poof overnight, then came back. Exhibit B: His views on the protests that have erupted in cities across the country in response to his victory.
Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 11, 2016
They're paid professionals! They're incited by the media! It's unfair! That was 9 P.M. last night. But look! Just nine hours later, our new president had a dramatic change of heart:
Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 11, 2016
Passion! Togetherness! Small groups! It's truly amazing what a good night's sleep can do for the mind. Either that, or a desperate talking-to from Kellyanne Conway. Can we expect this on other issues-say, whether to throw 20 million people off the insurance rolls by repealing Obamacare? We'll have to wait and see. These are exciting times.
