Tom Ford’s New Makeup Minaudière

I’ve never been a believer in love at first sight—until I attended the Tom Ford summer preview in New York City this week and instantly became smitten with a glitzy minaudière. I only occasionally don my trusty envelope clutch, but one of my biggest gripes when I do is that my lipstick—specifically TF’s Matte Lip Color in Flame, the perfect orange-red—creates an unwieldy bulge in my otherwise sleek accessory. (I know, I know, #firstworldproblems.) Naturally, the designer, an arbiter of high-gloss sex appeal and precise tailoring, devised the perfect solution for the beauty-obsessed vixen out on the town: a glittery, Plexiglas box that comes complete with a lipstick holster.

The $3,950 price tag includes a tube of Vanilla Suede, a weighty bullet that can be used to replicate the “shaggable” makeup look seen on the Fall ’15 runway. Modeled by none other than Naomi Campbell on the red carpet prior to the show, I like to think that the super has faced similar issues with squeezing everything seamlessly into her bag before a big night out. (The real reason she hurled her cell phone at her housekeeper? She couldn’t fit it in her purse.) In other words, if this rather extravagant storage solution is good enough for Naomi, it’s certainly good enough for me. Consider this evening bag at the top of my wish list—right next to the Les Beiges compact clutch from Chanel.
