The 19-year-old mother, Nandini, gave birth to a girl weighing 15 pounds and measuring 24.4 inches. Most babies in India weigh between 5 and 8 pounds and measure around 20 inches, the BBC reports.

The world record for the heaviest baby ever born belongs to an Italian boy born in 1955 at 22 pounds, 8 ounces. The local health officer tells the Metro he believes the baby girl born Monday, however, could be the heaviest girl ever born in the world. According to ITV, the previous record for the biggest baby girl ever born was a 14-pound, 5-ounce infant born in Massachusetts in 2014.

Doctors aren’t sure why the Indian baby girl was so big—her mother did not have diabetes, thyroid problems, or any other abnormalities, but doctors are now doing a test for something called an “inborn error of metabolism.” Mom and baby are both doing well, CNN reports. (This baby girl marked a milestone of a whole different sort.)
