This Digital Sheet Mask Could Change Everything About Skincare

The digital face mask could change skincare.

This is the era of personalized beauty, and now a new digital mask app takes customization one step further. Paris company Wired Beauty has spent three years perfecting a mask called MAPO and a corresponding app called La Clinique Digitale to create a reusable mask not only fits the contours of your face, but treats your skin. It starts with a computerized 3-D rendering of your face based on photos you send them from different angles of your face. From there, they send you the actual custom mask which promises to give you a full and visualized explanation of the state of your skin after wearing it for only one minute. While you wear the mask, digital sensors will capture data from your skin and relay moisture levels and dryness patterns, factoring in environment and physiology, and then recommend products and practices to address your skin’s ailments.

You can then track your progress through the app, and use the mask’s warming “booster” function intended to make your favorite skincare products more effective. We’re a little skeptical about using heat to improve the efficiency of products, especially since many oils are known to develop toxicity or go rancid at high heats. The mask only heats up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, which is not a high enough heat to cause a chemical effect in most oils, but temperature is not a viable way to improve the efficacy of a cream. Still, the heat function seems like a soothing addition to the mask.

The mask and app combo will be presented at the CES Las Vegas Beauty Tech Summit next month, and has just come to Kickstarter. The Mask will retail for $299 but early Kickstarter backers will be able to get their hands on it for $199.
