As all Fashion Week regulars know, the front row is just as closely watched as the action on the runway. So when Dior invited editor and style influencer Fajer Al-Rajaan to have her makeup done by one of the brand’s artists for their spring 2015 runway show in Paris, she looked to Dior itself for inspiration. In particular, the makeup from Raf Simons’s fall 2014 collection, the focal point of which was a bright pink lip. In a friend’s Paris flat (Al-Rajaan just sold her own), Dior celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin went to work, painting the native Kuwaiti with a flamingo-hued pout and a full, dramatic lashes. “I kept the skin really fresh and clean,” Martin says, giving the lips and eyes—and Al-Rajaan’s sequined Dior choker—a chance to shine.

THE FULLEST EYE

Using fingers, Martin applied Dior’s shimmery cream Monoshadow over the eyelids (it later doubled as a highlighter across the bridge of the nose, the cheeks, and the cupid’s bow). Al-Rajaan came equipped with her own purple Shu Uemura false lashes, which Martin loved. “The slight wisp of color looked really cool with the pink lip, not cheesy or campy,” he says.

BATTABLE LASHES

To add polish, Martin swept Dior Art Liner along the top lashes, then added black Diorshow mascara over the falsies to bring them together. “I focused on the base of the lashes and didn’t pull it through all the way, in order to keep the purple on the ends,” he explains.

THE FRESH FACE

“I wanted to keep her skin really fresh and clean since she was going to a day show,” Martin says. “I prepped the skin with Dior Capture Totale Le Serum, then used Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist to give her a bit more radiance.” He then applied Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation on most of the face, adding the brand’s Moisture Foundation in a fairer shade as a highlighter on the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, and cupid’s bow, as well as underneath her brow.

A PERFECT BLEND

Next, he used a Beautyblender sponge to “Push everything in—making sure there’s no streaking or patchiness,” evened out skin with Dior Diorskin Nude Concealer, and powdered the T-zone with Shu Uemura powder.

3 Bs: BRONZE, BLUSH, BROWS

“We wanted something polished but not too makeup-y,” Martin says. “We didn’t want her to look like she’d spend two hours in a makeup chair.” For finishing touches, he used a trifecta of Dior products: Dior Diorskin Air Tan Powder bronzer in Cinnamon “to shape out her face a bit more,” Dior Diorblush Cheek Stick blush in Cosmopolite Coral “to add a little bit of color,” and the Dior Diorshow Brow Styler in Universal Brown to frame the eyes.
