We all know some men love a good mani/pedi, but now men are actually painting their nails in support of Australian non-profit YGAP’s latest campaign, #PolishedMan. The movement aims to “support the 1 in 5 children globally who suffer from violence.” Previously the organization has focused primarily on alleviating poverty around the world. YGAP’s revised goal for this project followed a story from co-founder and CEO Elliot Costello’s last trip to Cambodia for a project with Hagar International, an agency that assists vulnerable women and children, namely survivors of human trafficking and violence.

“I met this 10-year-old, Thea, who had, at the hands of a westerner, suffered physical and sexual abuse from the ages of eight to 10,” says Costello in a campaign video of one of the children that drove the Polished Man campaign. “Thea had so much love in her heart when I met her. She picked up a marker and drew a love heart on my hand. She then flipped my hand over and colored all my nails in. I left that night so moved by Thea that I made a decision to paint one nail to represent the one in five children that suffer physical and sexual violence at the hands of men.” YGAP reports that 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 have experienced sexual violence, and 90% of all sexual violence against children is perpetrated by men.
