The Breakdown: Deconstructed Crown Braid

For festival season, Adriana Papaleo, backstage stylist and session director at TIGI, created this braid inspired by the runway. Here’s how to get the look in seven easy steps:

  1. Using your hand or bristle brush, pull hair up into a high, side ponytail.

  2. Using the classic three strand method, braid hair all the way down to the end.

  3. Pull braid apart with your hands to add texture.

  4. Wrap the braid around the top of your head.

  5. Tuck the end of the braid back into the ponytail and secure with bobby pins.

  6. Use bobby pins to adjust the height and balance of the braid.

  7. Use a small amount of light hold hairspray to tame flyaway. Try TIGI Catwalk Session Series Work It Spray ($21).
