FULL TRANSPARENCY
“Start with a flat foundation brush from Utowa and evenly apply this light powder all over the face, starting with the t-zone and working your way out. Because the product is quite sheer, you can add and build coverage if you need it, but for this look I prefer to keep it light for a really natural finish.”

TAKE A BROW
“Brows should look super natural and effortless—the last thing you want is for them to look drawn on. The trick is to pick products that are a shade softer than your own hair so they don’t look too dark and harsh. Use the brush end to sweep them up, then fill in the areas that need it. Always go with the natural shape of your brows.”

SOFT SHADOW
“Using the tip of your ring finger, blend this shadow into your eyelid. Applying it with a finger instead of a brush offers a natural finish and keeps things a little messy and imperfect. Start at the outer corner and then move upward to the crease using soft circular motions.”

CREME DE LA CREME
“Next, apply this cream shadow over the Dior, sticking to the lids. You will also be using your finger for this one, but because it’s a long-wearing formula, you’ll need to work quickly—once it sets, it’s not going anywhere.”

THE FINISHED EYE
“Use Utowa’s #13 brush to add this Kjaer Weis shadow to the eye, blending it with the other two, again moving upward on the lid in circular motions. Using the brush distributes the product evenly to give a softer finish, which is essential for a look like this, where you want perfect imperfection at the edges.”

THE LONG LASH
“I went with the Tom Ford mascara because it has a big brush and Winona has big eyes—my rule is, The bigger the eye, the bigger the brush. If your eyes aren’t quite Winona size, go for Serge Lutens’ smaller brush. Either way, start by getting as close as you can to the roots of your lashes. I like to do one coat moving upward, one coat moving downward, and another going up—just in the corners—for extra oomph.”

THE MODERN BROWN LIP
“Mix together the lightest shades in this palette and use Bobbi Brown’s lip brush to apply. You don’t really need a liner because the pigments are quite strong. But if you still want a little more definition, you can use the brush to line lips with the colors from the palette.”

INSTANT CHEEK
“There’s no bronzing action going on here; on Winona they most likely used a blush for contouring. This color is warm, which gives a little bit of definition without going into full contour. Apply right underneath your cheekbones and blend upward.”
