Queen of bizarre beauty trends Gwyneth Paltrow proved that even she has her limits after friend and former Victoria’s Secret model, Miranda Kerr, revealed that she loves leech facials. During GOOP’s first-ever wellness summit in Culver City, California, actress Paltrow said that her and Kerr frequently swap numbers on healers and doctors. Speaking on the panel, Kerr said, “Have you tried leech therapy?” only to be greeted by a wave of gasps from the audience.
Known as a ‘gentle’ caesarean, childbirth experts are increasingly advocating a technique, which mimics normal childbirth by allowing the baby to emerge at their own pace, rather than being pulled out by a doctor. Instead, the new mother is encouraged to watch their baby being born through a small surgical incision as the child wriggles itself through the gap. Now, doctors are saying that this approach can help women bond better with their children because they can hold them without them having to be whisked away and cleaned, the Daily Mail reports.
A teenage girl saved her mother's life by spotting the symptoms of a stroke – having learned what to look out for just two days previously in a school science lesson. Katie Murphy, a 14-year-old from Waukesha in the US state of Wisconsin, called an ambulance after she noticed her mother Christa Murphy's speech had become muddled. The student remembered her science teacher had told a story to help them recognise symptoms of a serious and potentially deadly brain attack.

Two toddlers were found dead in a locked vehicle on Friday in Parker County, Texas. Temperatures had hit 96F (35C) when the mother of the children, a two-year-old girl and a 16-month-old boy, says she found them locked inside her car, according to a news release from the local sheriff’s office. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website identifies the two children as Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez – and says the cause of their deaths is still pending.
Cutting down on meat part-time can almost halve the risk of obesity, scientists have said. Previous studies have suggested strict vegetarians tend to be slimmer on the whole, but scientists have said this new “flexitarian” approach could be a more realistic way to get people to cut down on meat, rather than asking them to forego it altogether. Professor Maira Bes-Rastrollo from the University of Navarra in Spain, who led the study, said: “It’s not a radical shift to a vegetarian diet, it’s more a gentle approximation.
Removing a condom during sex - known as stealthing - transforms a consensual act into a non-consensual one. It's a little-discussed form of gender violence, but that is all changing thanks to a new study into the phenomenon, published last week. When a man removes a condom during sex - often unbeknownst to his partner, be they man or woman - he is opening them up to the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
A mother and her daughter have died in a sauna in the Czech Republic after getting locked inside for around an hour and a half, police have said. The two women, aged 65 and 45 years old, were taking a sauna at their friend’s home in the town of Jicin, northeast of Prague, when the door handle came off and the pair became trapped, police spokeswoman Iva Kormosova said in a statement. Emergency services declared the mother and daughter dead at the scene.
Lawmakers are calling for a ban on a carcinogenic ingredient commonly found in body washes and lotions. When it comes to grooming, we slather and lather beauty products onto our skin in an effort to look better and smell fresher. Or maybe you did when microbeads – the small pieces of plastic in facial scrubs and makeup – made headlines last year.
