President Donald Trump’s travel ban on people coming from certain Muslim-majority countries sparked anger in many people across the country, but Sofía Vergara was able to find a little bit of humor in the controversial situation.

From last night’s SAG Awards, the Modern Family star posted a snap of herself and Westworld‘s Thandie Newton, captioning the image “Immigrants❤,” with the hashtags #thisis44 and #nowondertheydontwantushere, punctuating her point with a few cry-laughing emoji.

Reactions were divided, with some commenters not able to take the joke.

“Sofía, I love you, the reality is that we are all immigrants, let’s recognize that we need to keep this great country safe by protecting it from the ‘bad ones’ and only those good ones like you and others that love our values and are here to do good,” one person said. Another added, “He didn’t say he doesn’t want IMMIGRANTS in this country, he doesn’t want ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS…. esp from terrorist countries.”

Some people simply appreciated the joke. “Hahaha love you… Gotta find humor in difficult times,” wrote one.

Others came to Vergara’s defense, pointing out that some green card holders were also initially affected by the ban. “Except that those with valid green card are still refused entry? It’s all fine until it is your family,” someone wrote. After the backlash to the ban, which did leave many green card holders detained, White House Chief of Staff Reince Preibus told Meet the Press, “As far as green card holders moving forward, it doesn’t affect them.”

One Australian took the post as an opportunity to extend an invitation to Vergara and Newton for a visit. “You are both such amazing actors — if America gets too ridiculous, come visit Australia!”
