Shailene Woodley wants us to eat restaurant leftovers and she has a good point

Shailene Woodley isn’t just our favorite actress-slash-political activist-slash-holistic healer-slash-imaginary-BFF who always keeps it real. The Divergent star is also always on the lookout for new ways to make the world a better place.

Yesterday, Shailene tweeted about an awesome new app called Too Good to Go that takes restaurant leftovers and turns them into a sustainable solution.

Thanks for the heads up, Shailene! Too Good To Go allows users to purchase affordable (perfectly good) food that restaurants would otherwise throw away, thus reducing global food waste. Meals cost as little as $2.60, are packaged in 100% recyclable boxes, and can be picked up right as the restaurant is closing. There’s also an option to donate meals to families in need for just over $1.

It makes sense that Shailene Woodley would want to highlight a socially conscious app like TGTG. Last month, in an interview on Democracy Now, Shailene discussed her passion for “food justice.”

“I feel like it’s our job, politically, if we want to encourage and give everyone an empowered life in our country, we have to start at this simple thing of just survival.”

Too Good To Go is only available in the U.K. right now, but the founders hope to expand to other countries in the near future. In the U.S., it is estimated that Americans waste 20 pounds of food per person every month, equaling about 30-40% of the nation’s food supply wasted each year (via worldfooddayusa.org). So, here’s hoping it’s coming to American App Stores ASAP!
