After spending six years in a barn stall, Lazarus is finally getting a second chance.

Amanda Brooke Charsha-Lindsey with the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue shared an inspiring photo of a recently rescued great pyrenees named Lazarus to her Facebook page on Sunday. According to Charsha-Lindsey, Lazarus was kept in a barn stall for the past six years, and was in dire need of a haircut when groomer Candice Skelton rescued the pup.

According to the post, Skelton shaved 35 pounds of hair off of the dog, and he is nearly unrecognizable in the before and after shots.

Charsha-Lindsey also shared some videos of Lazarus’ progression and a more detailed version of the story to her Facebook page.

“It really took a village,” Charsha-Lindsey says in the video. “It took seven people to get this dog here and get him out of that situation.”

Charsha-Lindsey says that Lazarus is still timid, and hasn’t shown much interest in being around other people or dogs, although the dog was clearly affectionate toward her.

“He still has a way to go,” she says. “So adoption is not anywhere in the realm of possibility, yet."

Charsha-Lindsey also wanted to clarify that Lazarus wasn’t abused in any way, he was just neglected by his previous owners.
