Her thick, lush locks are part of her trademark look. Now model, actress, and singer Priyanka Chopra is revealing a secret to her healthy head of hair — and you can find it in your own kitchen. The 34-year-old Quantico actress uses a mixture of yogurt and lemon juice for a homemade hair mask and swears by it, according to India West.

“I mix half a cup of yogurt (for moisture) with two teaspoons of lemon juice (great for exfoliating), apply it to your scalp and leave it in for about half an hour,” Chopra told the publication. “Shampoo as usual and voilà!”

While it’s safe to say the edible beauty regimen will probably not transform you into a Bollywood beauty queen (Chopra won the title of Miss World in 2000), it is an effective treatment for moisturizing, in the opinion of professionals.

Yogurt has been used in the Indian subcontinent for a variety of supposed health and beauty benefits. While no clinical studies have been done to prove its benefit for hair, it does have moisturizing properties that may make hair more manageable,” says Anjali Mahto, consultant dermatologist and British Skin Foundation spokesperson.

Chopra says she also massages her hair with coconut oil, which Prevention recommends as an excellent deep conditioner, especially because it is able to penetrate the hair shaft effectively. Meanwhile, Livestrong recommends using yogurt another way to help grow long, healthy hair: eating it. Yogurt is packed with protein, which is an essential nutrient for thick tresses.

But Chopra isn’t denying the fact that another secret to her enviable mane is simply genetics. “I suppose I’ve been blessed with good ones,” she said in an interview with Hello! In 2015, she stuck to her guns when she told India West, “I have great Indian genes! You know, I’m lazy … I like food, and I don’t like the gym, and as long as I look like this without doing anything, why bother?”

Sure, she might be lucky, but Chopra is also refreshingly honest in a very “I woke up this way” celebrity culture, so it’s safe to say she’s got humility in her genes too.
