Apparently, all the hours spent searching for the perfect lipstick shade have been a complete waste of time. According to a new segment on The Doctors, the best way to discover the most flattering lippy shade is to match it to the color of one’s nipple. Unconventional, yet intriguing.

According to Travis Lane Stork, M.D., “nature knows best.”

Plenty of people have put the theory to the test. One person even opted to swatch shades directly on her chest (although this isn’t recommended unless you’re planning on showering soon thereafter).

Someone else suggested flashing employees at beauty counters.

Sure it might be funny — but this definitely a trick better tried at home.
