We talk about single moms a lot (as we should, they are awesome), but sometimes, we forget about all the single dads out there. Tiana Sheehan, a young woman raised by a single dad wants to change that.
The Facebook page Love What Matters posted a touching tribute from Sheehan to her dad, which she wrote after spotting a mother and daughter shopping for razors at a convenient store. She was reminded of the first time she shaved her legs, but because her mother had died, her father was the one to teach her. "I remember coming up to dad and being so embarrassed to ask him for help, but man, did he handle it like a champ," she said. "For a moment, he put his head down; and then he turned the TV off, took me into the bathroom, gave me a new blade on his razor, gave me his shaving cream, and taught me how to shave my legs."
Sheehan went on to say that her dad handled everything from periods to catty girlfriends - which are things a lot of dads are doing every day, without much recognition. "Single dads don't get the credit they deserve; especially mine and all dads who are left playing both roles ... My dad handled everything: periods, shaving, broken hearts, catty girlfriends - you name it and my dad took it like a champ," she said in the post, which has since received over 36,000 likes and 1,000 shares.
So many people commented on Sheehan's post, telling her how touched they were and how they could relate to her situation.
"Dad, I know I haven't said it enough, so here's a big public THANK YOU for never, ever, ever being too much of a man to be my mom. Thank you for never being too embarrassed to do the girl stuff you had to do, thank you for never making it embarrassing for me to ask you for help," Sheehan finished her post. "Growing up without a mom is obviously something no one ever wants, but growing up with you was the best. I love you, Dad!"
