Molly Sims: 'I have body dysmorphia because of my years of modeling'

Molly Sims makes being a wife, mother, actress, model, and author look almost effortless. But she’s one celebrity who “keeps s*** real” and can own up to how Hollywood has affected her self-image.

Sims stopped by Build Series in New York City to promote her new book, Everyday Chic, and share her best advice on “living with intention.” She admits to doing a lot of inner work to overcome the pressure of seeking a life of “perfection,” and this is a lesson Sims hopes to instill within her three young children.

The 44-year-old praises fellow model-mama Cindy Crawford for leading by example and “backing her daughter” Kaia Gerber despite criticism that Kaia is being forced to follow in her high-heeled footsteps. Sims says, “Cindy is an amazing mom. She’s an incredible person and Kaia, you know, that’s what she wants to do. And her mom is there with her along the way in London, Paris, Milan, everywhere.”

This is why Sims will always back “her tribe of five.” Should her children with film producer husband Scott Stuber choose careers in fashion, she hopes they have the morals to survive in the industry “because it does cut you down.”

She adds, “I have body dysmorphia because of my years of modeling. I have certain things with eating. I have certain things that I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. I can’t do that.'”

The do-it-all star didn’t share whether she’d been diagnosed by a physician with the medical condition that can dramatically affect one’s perception of their physical appearance. However, focusing on flaws isn’t something she’ll be passing on to her offspring. If Sims’s children decide to one day enter the tough industry of modeling, she says, “All those limitations, I don’t want my children to have to go through. But it’s also life. I just hope that they’re strong if they do have to do those things.”
